I can see why people would want this... but could I suggest...
just get into the habit of going to contacts first and find who you are looking for and then either clicking and going in to the contacts menu or tap and hold and select send text message.
The reason I suggest that is the New SMS message form won't have the TO: field filled in so you have to go search through contacts anyways!
