Anyway, not sure how Sprint-specific this is - but I've been lead to believe more than a few times that 7-bar signals and active/inactive data icons are IMPOSSIBLE in WM 6.5+... Which just isn't true. RZ's kitchen/ROM seems to have it working just fine, and that's what I've been playing with recently. It's using build 23069, and I haven't run into too many huge, crippling issues yet. In fact, the only one so far is that I soft reset it once while on the charger fully charged, pulled it off and left for work. When I got there I sat down and felt the heat from my phone in my pocket. I've got no EVDO (just an airave) at my home. Took the phone out of my pocket, it was stuck on 1x, and very hot. Soft reset it, battery was at about 28% - which was after only 20 minutes.
Still, only a one-time thing. I don't remember too many people having negative things to say about 23069 - it's all "just worked" so far, and beautifully too, I might add. No ringtone bugs, working data icons, working 7-bar signal, functioning lock screen, etc etc. Worth considering for the next build (though it seems as if you have your mind made up), or for anyone who wants to try something else in the mean time.

Yeah, I'm using the same ROM. He uploaded 23075 tonight. I can't find any major bugs in that either. It works just as good as 23069, maybe better. Juicy should definitely consider using these builds for his next ROM...
*Edit*
Found out this morning the alarm doesn't work in his latest 23075 ROM.
