For kicks, you could try removing the battery and the SIM card for 10 minutes. Replace them and try to start the phone. However, the above is probably your best bet at this point. Aside from paying an insurance deductible and getting a new one. Since it was your fault, getting a free replacement would just be wrong!
lol, well his phone wasn't lost or stolen, so I don't think a deductible would be necessary.
