Two reasons, first, I beg to differ with your view that there is a ton of space. I've already come up against a memory overflow problem when running one application. Shaving 59kb freed up enough memory to run the application, so for this particular instance, there is a very small margin available.

Second, I feel that the programs are more secure on my SD card in the unlikely event I need to do a hard reset.

For the most part, you're correct about the speed.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
