You have to understand the term back order can be used very loosely. Like someone said back order can mean a facing wharehouse does not have the particular item that will be shipped to you. However there may be another wharehouse that has the item on hand. Technically the item is on back order because it is not available from the local wharehouse.
another scenario is the wharehouse does not have any on hand at that moment. However later that day or the next morning they may recieve a shipment of the phones. Again at the time the part was on back order.
In the business I am in we deal with things like this on a pretty regular basis.
