Apparently when you lock it and it goes to sleep, the phone doesn't wake up locked all the time. Kinda like when the time catches up after being a sleep. It takes a moment for the phone to remember it was locked.
I'm on both for a short period. I'm moving from Verizon to Sprint given Sprint voice/data hold up. So, I get both phones side-by-side.

I actually had the same problem you did. I also had nueDynamicClock installed. After uninstall this, problem went away, along with the random lockups and device crashes. My guess is that nueDynamicClock stole focus from the Lock app and was too slow to wake up and that's what was causing the problem. To be honest, on the TP2 I have seen no difference in battery life with nueDC uninstalled.

There is something really wrong with that app and the TP2 on Verizon. I haven't had a chance to test it on Sprint yet, but I'm assuming that it could react the same.
