I'm also increasingly thinking that Sprint is looking at the Hero as filling the Diamond 2's slot in their lineup. They're heavily tied to Palm at the moment and that's not changing. They've got the usual fleet of Blackberries. And they've got a full compliment of Windows phones - a high end WM offering (TP2 ) some mid-level WM offerings (Diamond, Treo Pro) and some entry-level WM devices (Ace, Snap.) Now they're going to add an entirely new platform with Android, so they may be thinking about cutting back one of their comparable offerings on other platforms to see how it fares. They're certainly not going to undercut Palm right now and Blackberry doesn't have a comparable offering. Which just leaves WM devices - and the Diamond 2 is the closest possible upcoming device that overlaps with the Hero from a marketing standpoint. Hopefully I'm wrong on that thinking. But if it was launching anytime soon I can't help but think we would've seen some more concrete rumors by now.

I see your point, however, note that Verizon is carrying the Omnia 2, and the Imagio...which are identical devices, in respect to form factor, and OS, as well as hardware (except for the slower processor on the Imagio, and the OLED screen on the Omnia 2). Although, no concrete rumors are going around about the V picking up Android.
