I'm guessing that the "app" issue is just due to market size, the same way with viruses/trojans in the desktop world. Why should someone spend time making a program that people may or may not use in a very small and limited market? Windows Mobile is primarily a business platform right now, though that is supposedly changing with 6.5 and 7, and many of the things available for the iPhone don't have a place in a business environment. I feel like the recent smartphones from HTC/Samsung have brought regular consumers into the WinMo field that have little intention of using it as a business device. I'm guessing that developers are going to start porting Apps to WinMo, and it seems that MS is even looking to do so since there is an MSDN article about re-writing apps into winmo programs. If that happens, there will be tons of stuff for every person with the device, rather than things primarily catering to business users.
