Well they didn't completely lie about it, it CAN work on a GSM network, as long as it's NOT an US-based carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile.
However according to them if you travel out side of the States and use some other carrier's SIM card it'll work since it "has no subsidy lock" on it.
As for breaking the US-based GSM carrier lock down, it's just matter of time.
Oh yeah don't feel bad about $450, I had to pay full retail PLUS 9.75% sales tax.
