I appreciate your perspective, but don't think comparing dead pixels on a modern LCD screen to some of the things you've listed isn't very fair. The fact is that there are competing devices that have a low instance of this failure, which tells me that there's something about this particular screen that giving it a higher failure rate. I really think I should be able to turn on the screen and have 0 dead pixels, i.e., I don't think dead pixels are the expected norm.
