is there a way to change start button icon?

* without using shell. Can i regedit the icon?

... yes i know about wisbar, spb or sbd or what ever. but shells hit performance; and between softkey changer and rc mod cabs all i really want is to be able to reg start menu. I dont need crazey menus or shiny evdo icons.
