With VZWs move to LTE, Sprint could end up being the only major US carrier that doesn't have the iPhone. What incentive would Apple have to support WiMax with LTE being the dominant system? At the moment I'm glad that I don't have to share bandwidth with iPhone users uploading videos to Youtube. But, in the long term, if the iPhone's popularity continues it could be bad news for Sprint if it became known as the no-iPhone network. The way WinMo7 is progressing, we may see the iPhone4g released first.
