I noticed the same thing when I upgraded to the TP, I didn't elect to get the protection plan when I first got the phone and I wished that I had and tried to get it and they would not allow me to get it. A few months ago, Sprint seemed to be pushing the TEP plan and was allowing new as well as old users to get the plan. Needless to say I grabbed it, however didn't realize that I would have to pay a deductible if I needed to use the service.

I guess that paying the deductible is better than having to pay for repairs to the phone.
