nothing special about that...vzw covers your device for 1yr warranty so in the event that they cant fix your device over the phone, through a hard reset, or whatever simple minded methods they employ and it is a physical problem theyll ship you out a refurbished. However, if no refurbs are available, then they have no choice but to ship you out a new device which is what happened a couple times to me now.
This in no way affects or is related to assurion. Vzw customer service does this and are very helpful in other matters such as upgrading.
