Unfortunately, the story is wrong. The actual facts of the case are:

1. Only applies in California (can you say "Ah-nold"?)

2. Sprint is unlocking phones they sell to you if you want to leave.

3. Sprint is NOT accepting non-Sprint phones on their network, and they are not legally obligated to.

4. Ok... so you leave Sprint with your unlocked phone... now what? In other words, none of the other CDMA carriers is legally obligated (at the the moment) to allow your former Sprint phone on their network.

So in the end, this news really gets us no further until CDMA carriers are forced to accept outside phones.
