Telus has lost a lot of customers to the stinky IPhone, so it hurts them to hear the "IPhone" name.

Get through to their loyalty and retention dept. and try it, they may offer you unlimited tethering as well.
I'd probably have more to leverage i.e. push the old retention button, If I hadn't just switched from Bell C'est la vie!
