yes, any time you hand your phone over to a rep (esp for a problem like this) there is always a chance you'll never see it again. (and secretly isn't that kinda what we want to happen by that point, otherwise why be there.. ;b)
and from what I understand Verizon is pretty convinced only they provide proper hardware/software for the network
