It sounds like his expectations were too high from the sound of it and even if they weren't, he didn't give a proper chance to resolve all the issues.
I wouldn't sweat it.. you made a recommendation to him, but ultimately we are all responsible for our own choices that we make. The choice was his and his alone. He should’ve have done his own research in addition to what you told him.
