Yes, as I wrote on page two of this thread, I did try that. Unfortunately, after entering my phone number and account password, it plays some music, says that i'm being transferred in order to assist me, and then i get the old 3-tone operator message saying that I have basically called an invalid number. Upon activating a friend's verizon phone on verizon, i received the same messages, and got ahold of Verizon support; they said their *228 option 3 doesn't work very well, and they have gotten an awful lot of complaints, similar to what i just described.

I am just wondering if the local verizon store would actually cooperate with doing this?
I already tried this, as described earlier in this thread. They refused to touch it in any way. I said this alltel, and it has the ability to be activated since it is compatible with verizon services, and they refused. They did, however, tell me there is "some service" that is available that MIGHT be able to reprogram the phone, but no information on what, where, or how to get ahold of them.

Not sure if it makes a difference but I didn't activate it "from scratch"... I'm in FL and our Alltel store and my Alltel account was converted to Verizon. I got tired of my Touch Pro and took an Alltel Treo Pro (bought off eBay) and asked them to just switch phones. Didn't take but a few minutes.

Everything seems to work fine on the phone that I've tried so far like text messaging and data/internet. I came to this forum because the GPS doesn't seem to be working (GPS Test never gets past "starting GPS" and Google Maps never gets past 0 sats) and was just curious if there were any known issues and just saw this thread so thought I'd chime in (if you know why my GPS isn't working, please let me know but I'll keep looking in the meantime )

Duh... it's been so long since I even bothered with the GPS on the Touch Pro that I forgot all about the "location settings" needing to be turned on. Quick search here reminded me
The people in the store wouldn't touch my Alltel phone (brand new) purchased off eBay, and Verizon customer support said the message I listed earlier in this thread. Perhaps you got a pass because you were a previous alltel customer. I have a feeling transitioned accounts will be able to work, as it has been suggested here.
