You have to understand, people are more simplistic then that..Customer service has improved yes..but people don't join due to good customer service...they join because either you have a shiny phone or a good deal...just bad cs would make you want to leave.
I am actually surprised that I don't see carriers throw around new customer deals like first few month free or free GPS or something like that or maybe discount price for first year/6 month. Sprint has nothing to grab new customers at all..their phone lineup is junk...whether its crap phones or their over rated instinct..palm pre is a seller but not enough..they need more and their dumb phones are horrible and all look the same. Most people that buy dumb phones care about looks..if its not cool they wont join...
As for keeping their members well I'll tell you this..people want shiny phones again...second..if you put so much effort into your palm pre that you dont release anything decent for a while...then at least make it easily available..I know other companies have that too..but they don't put all their bets one 1 phone...
I mean I visit a T-Mobile store and they got 2x the amount of phones, they may be crap but they look cool..I personally know T-Mobile isn't as good...but people don't understand this..they go "OOOH SHINY..ME WANT"
And as for competitive prices, as I said people don't pay attention until they are already in a contract..and after 2 years they just accept it. Sprint needs to Modernize..they do things so 1990s..they need to enter the year 2009
I'll give you an example...I had a friend 1 year ago...We were looking at phones and they came to T-Mobile and saw a T-Mobile wing...and got obsessed with it...I hardly convinced my friend to look around and see what others had to offer and when we reached sprint I recommended the Mogul saying how its better in all ways..but in the end they went with the Wing cause it was shiny..so shiny they even payed 450$ without the rebates..Where as the mogul would have been cheaper and better, but not as "SHINY"
My bet is sprint could prob take those features they give away for free anyways after you annoy them enough like pick 3 or etc and every year/2 years add a new feature free to your account..they'd be surprised how many they'd keep. (This doesn't though solve having ugly looking phones...I mean how sad is it that when entering the sprint store I thought the Nextel phones were the best looking of them all..now thats bad)
