Fact not fiction -3 dbm difference is DOUBLE, TWICE AS MUCH since we are dealing with values that are affecting the sensitivity and Q (selectivity) of the radio receiver. and yes it Will affect drainage to your battery nothing gained for free and all modern transceiver equipment has some type of gain control ,whether or not its adjustable by the end user or is solid state locked in by manufacturer and controls itself based on the need and parameters of its operational design. Sorry if I didnt make it clear enough the first time .trying to keep as pedestrian as possible , but trust that your AGC is not turned off and that adjusting these values merely allows that Weak signal to be used and in doing so it takes more amplification to make it useable ...have you ever seen an amplifier that required no current or that gave higher output results as the power supplied to it was decreased , excluding "clipping " situations no because its not a fantasy device.Oh , and the post referenced supports what I already said...
