Android 'Donut' upgrade looks excellent
27 July 2009
Google has released an early
alpha version of the upcoming
Android update 2.0, dubbed
Donut, and
XDA-developers are currently working on making it available to all Android phone users.
Among the new updates are:
* Support for CDMA phones
* Text-to-speech
* Loads of new widgets, including one that allows for WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS/Email toggling and Brightness adjustment right from the homescreen.
* Official support for multitouch (This was previously available through hackery - we’re not sure yet if this will be in the final build)
* “Search integrated into everything”
* WPA Enterprise WiFi encryption support
* VPN support
* Automated backups
* “Tons of performance [tweaks]“
The updates look excellent so far, and we will update when the full beta or release is out in the wild.
