No it's not Treo based (that options works for the 6700 as well).
Though you are correct about using a software app to soft reset and saving changes to the registry.
Sure it is
possible to do a physical soft-reset and still have your changes saved but it is
recommended by many to use a 3rd party app as it seems to use a different method. YMMV.
