I could not, unfortunately, figure out how to remove the digitizer from the LCD, however replacing them together did cure the problem, which tells me that the problem is the LCD since my digitizer works fine.
If anyone knows of how to get the LCD off of the digitizer, the info would be helpful. Otherwise I suppose I'll spring for the LCD + digitizer combo on eBay for the $70 it's going for.

As a follow up, I murdered my lcd attempting to remove it from the digitizer. I've no clue whether it's soldered or what. I tried super heating it (375 degrees Fahrenheit), and prying it both with no luck. In the end, I purchased an $80 digitizer + lcd off of ebay and installed it. Everything's working well now.
