i know that there is a reg key where you can change how often the phone polls the towers, basically checking to see if a call is coming in. the problem is that the more often it checks (giving you more time to actually get the call) the quicker the battery dies. so it's a trade off i suppose. but it's good that energy made it better for you than stock.
