I use Flashlight.exe from this post at PDAPhoneHome.com. Love it assigned to a hardware key.

Also vjcandela works very well. It is in the kitchen if you cook your own ROM's. Mapped to memo button.

I use Nilisco flashlight, has timed and on/off options. I am sure a search will yield .cabs for any of these programs.

I tied mine to the 'record' key... one push turns off the screen, push and hold kicks on the light.
