Tethering? (WModem)

Is it expected that it will be possible to tether internet to pc with the Wireless Modem app and a USB cable?
I currently do this with my Mogul / Titan and Sprint

Is this somthing that currently works with WM Treos / expect it to work with the 800w?

Thanks... (looking forward to getting rid of this POS Mogul)

Re: Tethering? (WModem)

You can use PDANet from www.junefabrics.com . I originally got for my ppc to hide the data from sprint, now that is irrelevant. But I still like it because it has an option to disconnect on an incomming call and auto-connects when I plug my device into my usb. They make a PPC and a PalmOS version.

Wireless Modem is better b/c is provides a faster, direct connection to the internet. (using dialup networking in vista/xp) also, you get a real, dedicated public IP - a nessisisity for me. also, it's FREE.

Does PDAnet provide this?

Do you know is WModem works for treos / 800w?

Thanks!

Re: Tethering? (WModem)

Get me a copy of Wmodem and I will test it on the 800w

PDA-Net does work I've already tested it - Unfortunately I couldn't get Cisco VPN's to work through it.

says for mogul, but it's worth a try.
Wireless Modem.lnk
- Description: Shortcut to Wireless Modem application (Points to "\Windows\WModem.exe" /LAUNCH)
- Place in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder on your device

WModem.exe
- Description: The actual "Wireless Modem" application
- Place in \Windows folder on your device (v2.08 Mogul ROM already has this file).

WModem.exe.0409.mui
- Description: English language resources file needed by WModem.exe
- Place in \Windows folder on your device (was missing from v2.08 Mogul ROM).

Exactly why WModem is better. Provides a direct connect to the internet with a true public IP. Any internet app is thus guaranteed to work.

Re: Tethering? (WModem)

The 800w has mobile 6.1 and doesn't have DUN in Bluetooth - I'm a little leary of installing older mobile 6 bluetooth stack code.

From my understanding it does have Bluetooth DUN haven't tried it though. Also printed in user manual that it is enabled

Re: Tethering? (WModem)

The problem with this phone is when you are tethering the usb cable drains the battery.

Re: Tethering? (WModem)

When running internet sharing on the 800w it keeps trying to dial out and then disconnects then tries again until it just quits.

My 700wx and 750 worked on my computer.

Grrr....
