[How To] Back up Bluetooth device pairing info (also converting .REG to .CAB)

Hello all,

For all of us busy flashing our devices several times a week, here is a great tip.

I am able to use SDConfig.txt to re-install a few applications that I use and the Provisioning XML settings produced by Advanced Config. That brings me up to speed after a flash rather quickly. But... I still have to pair all my devices (a bunch of headsets, my car's bluetooth connection, my PC, etc).

The bluetooth device pairing information is located in the registy (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/Device). All you have to do is backup this registy portion and restore after a flash or a hard reset. You can even automate this using SDConfig.txt.

1. Download CeRegEditor and install on your PC.

2. Connect your devide via ActiveSync and fire up CeRegEditor. Locate HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/Device, right click on "Device" and select "Export". Save as bluetooth.cereg or any other name on your Desktop.

3. Within the CeRegEditor menu, select "Conversion/REG -> CAB" and convert bluetooth.cereg into bluetooth.cab.

4. Add the CAB that you have just created to your SDConfig.txt and you're done.

Enjoy!

Fabio

Re: [How To] Backing up Bluetooth device pairing information

Boy would I love to be able to do this. This is the biggest pain for me when flashing. I need to pair my work laptop, home PC, Car, phonebook in car, headset.. Then once that is done add all the network keys back to connect to home and work.

Did you say you got the network to work though?? So far each time I've flashed, i just reinstall the software. Been using Merdin's latest with the HD Touchflow. I have all the apps I use on 8g microsd so I can easily install, but if there are better ways, im open to listen.

Anyone able to figure out how to backup Wifi settings and restore them after flash with different ROM? How about backup/restore setting like disable quick sleep when call?

I was able to find some pairing information in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/Device. Has anyone had success saving that registry information and reloading it after a flash?

It would be very cool to be able to automate the bluetooth part via SDConfig.txt.

Please share your thoughts and I will be glad to write up a summary and post here as a how to document.

Thanks!

Fabio

Any other keys. Such as device name, user INFO, exchange server info, other email accounts, etc?

Thanks for the information on backing up the BT configs.

Here is a good thread on building a CAB for email accounts.

I tried this and was not successful in pairing with my Toyota. Do we need to back up more than the device key on?

Hmmmmm.... I'm doing some more testing. Each BT stack is different, maybe Toyota's more temperamental... Let me see if I can find anything else.
