Free way to use phone as modem

I am getting a new Treo Pro next week, as a replacement for the 3rd refurbished Treo 800w from Sprint that didn't work correctly.

One of my chief concerns is how I will use the phone as a modem. On the 800w, I needed only to delete one registry key and everything worked great using the Internet Sharing application. On the Treo Pro, I've read somewhere that this little fix won't work. I REALLY don't feel like paying any $ to buy a 3rd-party application, though...despite the good things I hear about PDANet and wmWiFirouter. Anyone know of a free workaround?

there is a thread on treocentral.com that has a link to the software with instructions...search "tethering with treo pro"
I tried it out and it works great!

Im using the same PAM cab on my treo pro that i used on my treo 800w.....and everything is working fine

I use Alltel and have made no changes and had no problems.

Turn off allow USB connection in active sync, plug in the phone. Start ICS on the Pro, click connect and surf.

Ok, I just purchased my Treo Pro I have had several Treo's in the past from the 600 and up, however I have never played around with the programing but i would like to use it as a modem now can some one walk me through the steps?

I have searceh the Treo central sight and have been unsuccesful on finding the correct link. Did anyone else find the correct link?

Me personally, i would prefer something like WMWifiRouter.

I don't understand why all these people do not see that "Internet Sharing" icon in the program files. Click that, select "connect with usb" and plug it in. give it a second and it works!!!
