Gmail question: battery life

My gmail is set up on my phone to connect and check for messages every 30 minutes, yet I get emails pretty much instantly. This is killing my battery, as it has been dying mid-day for the past couple weeks.

Any ideas why it would be connecting all the time to get messages if I have it set for every 30 minutes?

Re: Gmail question: battery life

um...i have mine setup to use imap and gmail and check every hour, and my battery life is much better, also if you are in a low signal area, it'll use up the battery more, at least that's been my experience.

Re: Gmail question: battery life

You might want to look into Direct Push technology. PushEffect, sort of Direct push, runs on your PPC. You setup Gmail to forward to your cellphone, which is sent as a text. PushEffect intercepts this message and uses it as a trigger to download mail. Therefore, it ONLY downloads whenever you get NEW mail. There is no need to poll the server every 30 minutes, hour(s), etc. This will then save you on battery life.

FYI, it requires that you have a SMS package.
