Re: compose new message

if i understand you correctly, when you're composing a new sms, you're typing a name of a person in the "to: " field and aren't getting any results in the dropdown box. i would check your contacts and make sure they're all imported correctly. next, try sending an sms from the contacts application instead. just tap on the picture next to the contact's name and a list of icons should appear where you can select the messaging icon. see if that works better.

Re: compose new message

If the contact does not have a number in the "Mobile" field, then they will not come up when composing an SMS if you type in their contact name.

Yeah, it may seem to make sense, but I wouldn't write my code that way. After all, it is humans who are going to be using the software, and the humans aren't all that tech savvy. I'm pretty sure there are a high percentage of contacts that have phone numbers in incorrect fields. Though by the same token, if you allow all numbers to be texted to, there will be plenty of people trying to text a landline. But whatever, there should at least be an option to search all numbers and not just ones in the mobile field - not for me, I'm fine with it. But the masses could probably use that option.

Another issue is email addresses. You can send a text to an email address, yet you cannot select an email address to put in the "to" field. Perhaps someone should have explained to their programmer how texting actually works.

Re: compose new message

hahah, you have a very valid point Humpa...can't argue with ya.

EDIT: but at least its very easy on the Droid to change the info...its a drop down instead of a cut/paste like on BB's

Re: compose new message

wow. that's so retarded, i never would have thought of that. this must suck for people who uploaded their contacts from a dumbphone and every number is listed as "home", rather than "mobile".

Re: compose new message

man, there has to be an app than can batch-edit the contact list or something. if there isn't, someone could become very popular for writing one.

Export to csv. Change the title row from "Home" to "Mobile" (or whatever the column is that you need to edit). It is no more complicated than that.
