Re: Official XV6800 WM 6.1 Available
Sometimes, Life's Lessons are learned in the most unexpected of ways. How many times do you start your car in the morning, or late at night... and utter a quiet word of thanks and appreciation to the mechanic that keeps it running? Not often enough, right. You're not alone. We just expect it to reliably work - every time we turn the key. I know... I do the same thing. Ditto - when I use my cell phone; that is... I used to - up until about a month ago!
Here in Vermont, where the cell phone service is either right-on target - or none existent (just INCHES apart)... I had the most frustrated experience of trying to reconnect to my Verizon service following a recent upgrade to 20270.1.3.1/3.56 by No2Chem. The OEM version of the software - for one thing - didn't allow for GPS, and it didn't come with Rev. A, just WM 6.0 - right out of the box. As an avid member of PPC Geeks and XDA-Developers, I was trying to find an upgrade that allowed access to the locational feature! Seems that in doing the upgrade, Verizon had to reset the DMU switch a few times to get it to "take". Yes, there are many customer service techs who just take up space on their stools - at ALL of the service providers, that's just a given... but, I wouldn't say it's 99.5% of the time. Case in point was when I called one evening, in a typically pissed-off mood after attempting to reload the update for the umpteenth time - with the same results - NO connection, despite the amount of time I repeatedly inputted the same data and attempted the *228 procedure. I got a Customer Service Tech by the name of Ian Chamberlain. Now, I don't know the fellow beyond my Verizon relationship, but this guy's attention to our need to get connection went well above the fold, as he not only got after the upper level folks to ensure the DMU got attended to, but he also assisted in making settings that insured the best connections... and he would call me back in the weeks to follow - just to make sure we were operating at top performance... all this AFTER I told him from the start that we had opted to upgrade to non-Verizon OEM official software (a custom ROM and Radio)! He even spent HOURS going over a variety of Kitchens with me... from the ever-so-stable 5060 on up to the present version... with the singular goal of ensuring that THIS customer was happy. You see, I'm not only a Firefighter and EMT, but also a Specialist in Incident Management and Disaster Mitigation... and have not only Excel and Word documents that I need to have with me at all times, but also the need for GPS and telemetry. The Mogul/VX6800 was the obvious choice for us... as it offered many features in a singular device. Ian understood our desire to stay with this unit - and not have to migrate to the Blackberry - and took to the task as if we were his ONLY customer. Now THAT is customer service. I mean it - this guy went the extra mile for us... and I can't thank him enough. If your current cell phone service is with Verizon, and you have issues following a recent kitchen upgrade - I'd highly suggest you call this guy, at: 803-400-4456, Extension #1837. He usually works the late night shift... from 8 PM to 5 AM... and is off Sundays and Tuesdays. I'd suspect that he'd be getting MANY requests following this post, so, please - be patient... but I know he'll contact each and every one of you. Just do me a favor, and tell him that Sandy Korda - from FIRE-RESCUE says, "Thanks". (Now, if ONLY there was a battery that didn't drain in less than 24 hours...!!!!)
