changing available RAM on boot?

i was looking through the registry for some sensitivity settings, and found under
-> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Performance
a setting that shows the "Available RAM on boot"
mine is set for 13418496 (i'm assuming it is bytes)

couldnt find anything searching, so will increasing this setting affect anything, like +RAM on startup?

Interesting find....
Does someone have the guts to try this out? I don't want to mess with it

I dont believe changing that will have any effect on free ram at boottime; if you look at no2chem's nuePerformance tool...http://www.weienterprises.com/nue/nueperformance.html

thats just showing the performance stats from last boot if I am correct. I believe you would find it wont stay to whatever you change it to after reset, but might not hurt anything trying it.

I just did 3 soft resets and each time the value was different

1st. reset 19423232
2nd reset 19111936
3rd reset 19451904

....I don't think changing the value will do anything...

I started with 20663328, changed the value to 21500000 then soft-reset after 2 minutes. Just checked the value, and it's at 20963328. Unless i'm missing something, it didn't do a whole lot. Anyone get different results?

Re: changing available RAM on boot?

That's just the registry setting telling you how much WAS available at boot. Changing it probably won't do anything.

The nuePerformance tool by no2chem probably just reads that ;)

Exactly my point. its just reading system state for all those entries. you could prove it by enabling a today plugin and rebooting; the Home Painted entry would show a higher number...cause it would take a little longer to draw the today screen on boot.
