WMWiFi will let you use your phone as a wireless modem but I have never tried syncing my Titan with my Ubuntu machine. Not sure there is a way. Hell, there are barely even any good OSX options.

There are options available for ubuntu. None that I have found yet are as capable as activesync though. I would recommend using mail2web for syncing all your contacts etc and you get push e-mail as well. I haven't synced my 6800 to a computer since I started using mail2web and I doubt I ever will again
