Three Way Calling

How do you make a three way call?
The manual says:

To set up a three-way call, directly dial the participants and add each connected call to the three-way call.

1. Press the TALK/SEND button to open the Phone screen.
2. Make the call to the first participant. See “Making a call from the Phone screen” for instructions.
3. When the first call is connected, make a call to the second participant. The first call is put on hold when you dial the second call.
4. When the second call is connected, tap Flash to start the three-way call. The screen displays Call in progress.

When the first call is connected, I see no way to make the call to the second participant.
What's the trick?

It is not very clear. I had not tried to use that feature so I had to research a bit.
When the first call is connected, touch the keypad button to return you to the number pad, dial the second number. You don't have to press any button to make it connect, then touch the flash to have both at the same time. Touching the flash will cycle from caller 1 to caller 2 to all at once.

Actually you have to press the green phone dial button to connect after you dial the second number. I tried that and it didn't work the first few times, then it finally did.
