Can you use wifi on verizon omnia without phone coverage?

Hi folks,

I am trying out an omnia 910 before getting verizon coverage. I am trying to use my omnia to connect to my cable router and the connection is getting established but it is failing once i try using the IE explorer. Did Verizon disable this functionality without having the telephone coverage? Any help would be appreciated as I am a newbie on a pocket pc.

Sometimes I turn off the phone (flight mode) when using wifi and I have never had a problem.

That's an excellent question. Like jcurley, I've used wifi with the "phone" part off, as in Flight mode. Always wondered if it would work, just in wifi mode and not provisioned with VZW.

Don't worry, VZW can't touch the WiFi connection, it works fine even without service.

Im using my phone now that they turned off on me because i didnt pay the expensive priced bill... Im use my wifi with SIP and GV to keep getting texts and calls.
