Annoying phone behavior

My Tilt has recently started this cute little phenomenon where it will randomly freeze before, during and after making calls, forcing me to remove the battery to make it responsive again. Some times when I make a call, it won't freeze, but it will remain at the "dialing" stage until I end the call. Other times, it will flash to either a green or grey "static" screen and be totally unresponsive until I pull the battery.

When I say "unresponsive," I mean it -- no button press is responsive.

What gives? Should I drop-kick the thing, or hit it with a hammer?

You should be able to do a soft reset instead of pulling the battery. Which ROM are you running?

*sheepish grin*

Factory...

The problem is that often the touchscreen is as unresponsive as the buttons.

A soft reset is performed by sticking your stylus in the small hole located on the bottom of the phone by the upper right hand corner of the USB port. You do not need the touchscreen to perform a soft reset.

Check under Settings -> System -> Device Information and check your ROM version. If it is not 1.62.502.0 then you do not have the latest "factory" version. You can download it from the HTC site:

If it is happening repeatedly it is probably a software problem.
I would back up all my important data and do a hard reset. Remember this wipes your phone clean of any data.
