set airplane mode from recovery

is there a way to set my evo to airplane mode via recovery? i know there isn't an option in recovery itself, but what about an "Update.zip"?

Not that I have ever seen or heard of, plus why would you want to set the phone to airplane mode from recovery?

i get horrible reception in my basement. sometimes if i'm txting it'll get crazy and tell me that it can't send a txt.. it'll keep retrying and retrying, the txt keeps going out... but it doesn't register that it's sent... so whoever i'm txting will keep getting txts until i can clear out my txts.
so, what i'd like to do is:

as soon as i know it's doing it (i notice it as soon as it happens)
pull battery, power on to recovery, airplane mode, restart, go in and clear out the txts.

right now, by the time i can even get it to go to air plane mode, it has already sent out the same txt 5-6 times..if it's a long txt (broken up to 2-3 160 character txts, they may get a total of 10-18 txt... lol..
i know it's not a rom issue, i've tried different roms and kernels.

Have you tried another program like GoSMS or Handcent to text with instead of the stock message program? I would think it would be easier to just use the power button and when that menu pops up hit airplane mod? (in case you don't know most custom roms use a "quickboot" type program that by holding down the power button you get a menu to reboot, reboot normal, hot restart, reboot into recovery, airplane mode and other things).

thanks, but i'm currently using handcent. this has happened w stock app as well. as for the power button. by the time it gets to airplane mode, even from there, it's already sent the txt repeatedly.. :-\ darn phone... lol
