Re: How do you update a rooted epic to the new sprint update
Do you have CWM (Clockwork Recovery) as well as root?
If not, check this out and see if it's within your tech reach: [RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 BML Officially supported by ROM Manager for Epic 4G - xda-developers Here's a video that will take you into CWM step by step: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuLWzeJ1lT4 After that, you'll be able to flash a stock update or (even better) a custom rom with lots of goodies on it. Go and cruise over here and see what EL30options appeal to you: Epic 4G Android Development - xda-developers If you are rooted, the new system (EL30) update will not install OTA on your Epic. If you try, you'll get an Exclamation Mark cartoon (Fail notice). Pull your battery and reinsert it and you'll be back where you started, with no more notices.

Re: How do you update a rooted epic to the new sprint update
ok, well WanderingMinstrel, thank you for taking the time to address that. It was easy to install CWM. Now, you commented that EL30 will not update over the air. So, how do I get that update then?

Re: How do you update a rooted epic to the new sprint update
Go here:
[ROM][CWM][EL30] Stock+Root+Deodexed - xda-developers DL the EL30 file and then copy it to your SD card. Run CWM, do the required wipes, and flash it. You'll have a stock + root version of EL30. It's the most basic of the customs. I'm assuming that you've done this before. If not, check the appropriate QBKing video. BTW, the notification messages came back today on my Epic after a week's vacation. I did the install/fail process again. Seems to work for about a week. I'm waiting for the EL30 custom rom I want to be posted... |
