treo 700wx help

I have an old treo 700wx that I want to reactivate for my dad to use for a while. I don't know why or how to fix it but the dial pad won't open. I can't program it to my other number if the stupid dial pad won't open. I've done an internet search but can't find an answer. any ideas? I can dial without the dial pad (but can't dial ##786#) so it works but need the dial pad to change the phone number.
