Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
Unfortunately I am on a family plan and adding data would be too expensive, also I am always within wifi so there is no reason to have data.

Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
You're better off with a data plan, that way you don't get hit with a terribly high bill because of using data accidentally.

Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
There are ways to ensure I will not use data- that is not what I'm looking for. I'm asking if it is possible to have a HTC Touch Pro without a data plan or if Sprint will place one on my account or not allow me to use this phone.

Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
To get a definite answer you'll have to go in and ask... You have some good points.. . However... From what I understand... Sprint will not activate that phone without a data plan being attached to it.
It's doable... But if you forget to turn data off... The phone will incur several minutes of data access and you'll be on the phone with sprint explaining that you didn't access the internet and that you would like to have the charges removed and so on and so forth... That phone is data intensive... Weather, stocks, mail, twitter, etc... They would rather sell you a texting phone than the tp2. It doesn't mean you can't get one on ebay and use it on wifi only... I still have mine and my wife's old TP2s serving their purpose at home... Mostly for slacker radio and youtube... But active nonetheless. So the short answer you're likely to get here is no... You can't. You may want to try to convince Sprint otherwise... But I really doubt it will happen. Let us know how it goes and if you are able to get your way. Good luck bro. p. |

Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
Just wanted to update everyone- You can use the HTC Touch Pro with no data plan as well as the HTC Touch Pro 2 and the Samsung Intrepid.
Also Sprint can block data so you do not have to which makes life easier- no way that you will accidentally use it and if so it's on their hands and they will remove the charges. Getting this information was like pulling teeth but it did come from a Sprint Customer Service Representative. (after several emails) Now let's hope this works in practice- I'll update again once the phone is activated and working. |

Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
I know i'm a few days late but i've had my touch pro since it came out and didn't have a data plan with it for the first year I had the phone. I have a data plan now and am still rocking the same touch pro.
What the rep said is absolutely true. Sprint does have the ability to block data completely and won't even allow the data connection tab to remain in the 'on' position on the phone so you can't accidentally use it. Actually I had a family plan with no data back then and I told sprint to block data connection completely. My brother had a mogul, I had the touch pro, and my sister had a diamond so all of us had internet capable phones with no internet. (I know it sounds stupid but we got the phones for cheap from a friend and we didn't want to upgrade to a data plan at the time.) So to answer your question with 100% certainty- Yes, you can use the touch pro without a data plan. |

Re: Can I use a HTC Touch Pro with no data plan on Sprint
I can confirm as well that you do not need a data plan to use an TP or TP2 (we have both on an old free and clear plan without data).
We have Text and Data blocked on both phones. WiFi works great though. I have had it this way for the past month or so and 1 billing cycle has completed without any extra charges. Sprint.com shows these items being blocked as well. CDMA SOC 2 Way SMS Blocking $0.00 Disable NAI Functionality $0.00 |
