Verizon is getting ready to launch the HTC Thunderbolt / Incredible HD , which is an androidd phone with a front facing camera ( basically verizons version of the Evo ) . I know they have the trophy and a couple other wp7 devices on the way but i wanted to know will there be any devices with a front facing camera ? is Windows Phone 7 capable of using a front facing camera ? since the launch of iphone 4 , the newest ipod touch and the evo , the front facing Camera has been the latest craze in cell phone features , im currently eyeing the HTC 7 Pro if verizon gets it in January but if they will have future phones and wp7 is capable of handling a front facing camera i may consider waiting . I havent seen anything about wp 7 and front facing cameras so i was curious is this was even possible with wp 7

Re: Can WP7 Support A Front Facing Camera?

The current revision does not support front facing camera..come the HTC 7 pro there will be a new revision..whether or not front facing camera will be supported on that new revision is unknown...

The Thunderbolt will be like the EVO but should have a newer 2nd gen processor with Adreno 205 GPU..overall the the LG star looks a lot better...

Thats what I was thinking, after all it's just a piece of hardware that needs a driver and software to enable it....

When Microsoft does this stuff, they do not lock themselves into a system that can't be upgraded (that would just be dumb). I would put money down that this was on the list of hardware support for "7" 5 years ago.

It's up to all the hardware OEMs to use it...

Re: Can WP7 Support A Front Facing Camera?

From what I can see while looking at my 7pro, the front facing camera is defintely there. If you put the phone under a bright light and look just above and to the right of the HTC symbol, you can see the light sensor and the camera. It's just about exactly the same on the EVO. So the hardware is there like others have said, it just needs to be enabled. Atleast that's what it looks like to me... What do you guys think?

7 pro or the Arrive ? They are different phones... 7 Pro, maybe, Arrive, I would say no. The 7 Pro is GSM. The Arrive is CDMA. The overseas GSM phones are the unbastardized versons of the US phones (un-stripped via carriers), not like the CDMA phones in the US who like to rip features off.

They could also be using the same "glass" as other models that support it, you might see it lighter in that spot looking like it might be something but, the board might not be there to enable it.

It would be interesting to know...

Mine is a Sprint Arrive by the way, I swear I can see the camera where I indicated. Atleast I hope that's what I"m seeing...
