1X and EVDO are indeed data connection indicators. CDMA phones do not have the capability of using EVDO while in a voice call, so it drops to 1X during a call. It always does so, but depending on which ROM you use, it might not show it doing so, but that is how it works. That's why GSM providers advertise surfing while on the phone. |

Re: Outgoing calls use 1x, not EvOD
Ah. That makes sense.
So if it drops to 1x while on a call, does that mean we can have a data connection while on voice? I've always received txt messages while on a voice call (as you said above, txt uses 1x as well). That makes sense. Yeah, I envy my iPhone co-workers that say, "Hold on, let me forwarwd that email to you. Ok, you should have it now." Blah. |

Re: Outgoing calls use 1x, not EvOD
I think there are 2 separate issues.
1) EVDO (Evolution Data-Only) does not implement voice, only data. That is why you drop into 1x. 2) CDMA from your carrier does not support simultaneous VOICE/DATA (irrespective of EVDO). You can choose to have DATA interrupted by incoming calls or have incoming calls get sent to voicemail if a data connection is running. |
