Question Is it possible to disable 850Mhz Radio to Conserve Power?

Sometimes when I use my device, I roam onto Verizon or something. Since Sprint only uses 1900Mhz (or so I hear. ??), is there a way to disable the 850Mhz half of the radio to conserve power since I'll never use it anyway?

Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to disable 850Mhz Radio to Conserve Power?

are you running a rom that gives you the option of sprint or home only?

go to start-settings-personal-phone-services - get network services settings and set home only or sprint only. It might be a slightly different name depending on your rom, but check all your services and you might be able to limit your bands that way.

Got to the "phone settings", but can't find a "get network services" button on there.

Thanks anyway though.

Hmm, it may need to be enabled through the registry.

at phone settings screen there should be tabs at the bottom of the page, phone, services, more, advanced.

You need to go to the services tab.

If you can't get there that way, try going to connection manager and click phone settings and then click menu - network selection. That should let you click the services tab there. If not, you got me! What rom are you running? 6.1 or 6.5 or 6.5.?

You were on the right track, but I think I found what you meant to say in your first post. Under the "Services" tab in "Phone Settings" Under the "Personal" tab inside of "Settings" accessed from the Start menu there is a "network service" button. Among the options are "Home only", "Automatic A", "Automatic B", and Standard (which was selected by default). I have now set the device in a part of my home which I know previously showed up as "roaming" and am going to wait to see if it just stays on "Sprint", or if it'll show "no service", or if it'll remain unaffected.

looks like you found it. That's what I was talking about. You should not roam now that you're set for home only, so that should definitely save battery. What are you finding? Is your service adequate? Is your battery better?

Yes, I checked and I no longer Roam. Now I just get a little (hungry looking) bar that conveys the message "searching for service" by showing some blinking bars. I would be interested in doing a test to see what effect this has on battery life. This completely turns off the 850Mhz radio though, right?
