Lites Out! - My Free WVGA Game

Lites Out!

Requirements:
WVGA Device with WM 6 or 6.5.x
Compact Framework 3.5

Lites Out! is a puzzle game with the object of the game being to solve each level by turning all of the lights off. There is only one rule for accomplishing this task: Pressing a button will toggle its state and the state of the neighboring buttons (up, down, left, right). If a button is lit, it will turn off. If it is off, it turns on.

Example:

This is my first attempt at writing a game for the PPC.
Please feel free to leave your thoughts on the game, but go easy on me.

I have included 100 levels of game play. That should be enough to kill several hours of time.
The download file is a zip with an install CAB and a pdf file with instructions for game play.

Download Here

I am offering the game for free, but please consider a small donation if you like the game.
If you do donate, I will gladly send you a new copy of the game with the nag window removed from the start of the game.

Special Thanks To: jabson & bignadad for their help and advice.

Re: Lites Out! - My Free WVGA Game

Hi,
Here is some feedback for your game.
Thanks for the work it does the lights out concept well, and the color combination is good.

I am running Big's maxsense 7/25 6.5.5 version. When the game started up there was a rather awful squeaking sound that startled my wife.

Thanks again.

Re: Lites Out! - My Free WVGA Game

Micah, thanks for the feedback.

This is a clone of a hand held game made by Tiger Electronics back in 1995.
I had that game and really enjoyed it.

I really tried to match the colors - the original game had purplish-blue buttons that when lit turned purplish-pink. I even tried to make it look like there is a little light bulb underneath the lit button. The purple and yellow buttons at the bottom (Reset, Exit) also follow the original color scheme. I consider myself to be graphically challenged, and can barely draw a stick person. But, I did draw all of the graphics for the game. I think it is acceptable.

As far as the sounds - those too are original. The multi-tone beeps at the beginning and the beeps for each button press are the actual sounds played by the original game. (or as close to them as I could make them) The startup sound can definitely be surprising if your volume is turned up. Maybe I will make a preference to disable that sound in a future version.

Re: Lites Out! - My Free WVGA Game

Ahh the sounds make much more sense now. I was rather confused by them. I do remember the Tiger games and there sounds, but never played this one. Mostly played Bo Jackson football and Baseball.
