Unlocking HD2 for AT&T, Rogers and Fido

I'm debating buying a HD2 from Craigslist or ebay for unlocking it for the following reasons:

1. Use on AT&T Data (tethering)

2. Use on Rogers (Canada) for voice and data (tethering as well)

3. Use on Fido (Canada) for voice and data (tethering as well)

4. Use in Europe and the Caribbean voice and possibly data (Caribbean would likely just be 2G data)

What I've learned so far from searching several threads, the T-Mobile HD2 doesn't have the AT&T 3G bands, so I would only be able to use AT&T's 2G for data. Has anyone figured out a way around this? Similarly, would I suffer the same limitation on either of the two Canadian carriers I listed above?

Here is a thread where this was discussed (Post # eight) : http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ck#post1667029

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

There is no way around hardware not being correct. You will never be able to use it on AT&T 3g network.

Thanks Badger. Upon doing some more research it seems it's a hardware issue and not software. The only hope would be to get the Australian version of the HD2, specifically the one they nickname the HTC T9193. The price for that is too rich for me.

You CAN use 3G on WIND mobile in Canada on the T*mobile handset. I have read a review where they ran the phone through its paces on that network.

You have to get the Telus version to get ATT 3g service or wait until the end of June HTC is suppose to release and unlocked us version with ATT band for like $600 bucks. Good Luck.

My recommendation would be just to switch over to t-mobile. You would get faster internet speeds with them anyway.

No you don't. There computer systems update every time you make a phone call so once you make a call the hd2 will show as the phone you are using.
