OTA update to 2.1 wiped out contacts (NVM)

My stepson just got the OTA update to 2.1.

It wiped out all his contacts.

EDIT:
Just a scare. 20 minutes later, his contacts have "magically" reappeared.

He said that the update didn't give him the option to not run it.

After the contacts reappeared I urged him to back up his contacts.

Re: OTA update to 2.1 wiped out contacts (NVM)

My wife got the update and it didn't ask to backup. I didn't think to tell her to do so. C'mon, what kind of OTA update doesn't back them up first? Poorly designed update in my opinion. That was yesterday, no "magic" reappearance of contacts.

the OTA wont ask you to backup. it might warn you but doesnt ask you too. thats a thing you must do on your own.

The OTA update is available? Since when? Sister still hasn't gotten a notification about it.

Re: OTA update to 2.1 wiped out contacts (NVM)

People - it's a Google device. If you don't have this sync'ing in full to a Google account, then you're missing out on a TON of features (let alone never worrying about backing up contacts, calendar, tasks, etc....).
