any way to change the interval time that phone searches for antenna?

Any way to have the phone look for an cell tower every X number of minutes? As it is now if I am in certain places in work my battery gets run down very quickly because the phone keeps searching for a cell tower. I'd rather not have to put it in airplane mode constantly....

I believe that changing the Slot Cycle Index will affect this, but even the longest interval won't be minutes apart.
