ROM Update (Alltel, now on VZW)

I live in Oklahoma and all Alltel phone here were migrated to Verizon. I still have my HTC Touch (Vogue) that hasn't been touched since the migration. I'm not scheduled for a new phone until sometime late this year... (October). I'd like to re-flash my phone with a newer ROM but I'm worried about whether I should use a Alltel or Verizon one. I don't want to lose my EVDO coverage like this guy (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=111578). And I want my GPS to continue working quickly which was a big issue when this phone was new until I found some certain cabs that made it work correctly.

I'm currently running stock 6.1 update from HTC for Alltel.

Check the website if you have "My Verizon" access. I was not eligible to upgrade until 09/2010 and my wife was not eligible until 12/2010. Verizon is offering customers that have an Alltel phone to upgrade early and you can keep your Alltel plan. My wife just upgraded to a Motorola Droid. I am waiting for the Droid Incredible.

Also, if you don't want to upgrade yet, use an Alltel .cab. That is what I used all the time with my Vogue (Touch). I ran Vin's roms and they were rock solid. The last one I used was Ver. 23506 V4. I am using Myn's Donut Android now.

If you flash another rom and you skip customizations your carrier provisioning will not be changed. Some custom roms are cooked so when customizations run provisioning is not set so you would still be ok. Like the previous poster said, you can also run a carrier provisioning cab that will set things correctly.

Thanks, I think I'm actually going to go with Myn's Donut Android for now and try to pass the phone off to my wife then get a Incredible when they release... My only concern is tethering... I do it nearly every day on my Vogue as I have unlimited Alltel data and I stream music at work... I don't know if I can tether in Android...???
