Charging Issues: Dedicated Charger vs. USB Cable + Adapter

Does anyone else have charger issues? I'm running BigE 1.2 ROM (not sure if that's the problem), but whenever I charge with a data USB cable + USB power adapter, I end up losing power. Today, I was at 99% when I plugged it in, then I checked again, and it was at 97%.

I don't have problems like this with my dock, which has a mini usb power connector so that I plug in a dedicated mini usb power adapter rather than USB cable + USB power adapter. However, I have a plastic case on the Treo Pro, so I don't want to have to always take off the case to charge.

I did read somewhere about the micro USB not being able to provide enough power, but I can't seem to find it again.

sounds like your usb power adapter is the issue. Dont you have the usb that came with the phone? why would you need a adapter?

Possibly; when I plug the micro USB cable directly to the USB port of the computer, it charges.

I need an USB cable to power adapter (something like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...49CKSDCMJQH5VK) because I don't have straight USB Micro power adapter. I bought my phone used, and it didn't come with the original power stuff, only an aftermarket dock that uses mini USB.

Ahh i see now your charging from a wall!!!! Sorry having brainfart day!! I have found that the phone charges faster and your more likely to get a 100% charge off your laptop/desktop computer. I hardly charge from the wall.

I wonder why charging from the wall is slower than charging from the computer.

Re: Charging Issues: Dedicated Charger vs. USB Cable + Adapter

I'm not sure of the cause, but the Treo Pro requires a high quality (e.g. OEM) wall charger. My GUESS is that the battery voltage on the TP is slightly higher than normal, so the charging circuits in the cheap wall chargers start to scale back too early. I have found some of my wall chargers work just fine with the TP and others do not, even though the specs are identical (same nominal voltage and amperage). Bottom line: a) go to eBay and buy a Palm (or other OEM) charger or b) install PowerGuard (freeware available on net to measure power consumption/gain) and then go to a phone kiosk in the mall and find a charger that puts at least 300 mA net into your phone. Good luck.

Re: Charging Issues: Dedicated Charger vs. USB Cable + Adapter

Well, it looks like I was mistaken. Apparently, the secret is to find a charger with the two central "data" leads shorted. See http://discussion.treocentral.com/tr...s-culprit.html .

Re: Charging Issues: Dedicated Charger vs. USB Cable + Adapter

I just bought a Treo Pro from a friend who recently changed carriers............It charges through USB while connected to my computer, however, when I try to plug into wall or powerstrip, it beeps twice and doesn't charge at all......what's the problem here?

Re: Charging Issues: Dedicated Charger vs. USB Cable + Adapter

I use a nextel desktop charger and a motorola auto charger with no issues. I used to have a generic type of auto charger with a micro tip that had the same issues you did, but buy a charger for motorola and it should work.
